Bio:  DJ Shay Kapone is an American rapper, record producer & DJ from Tampa, FL. Best known for being discovered as an artist, “On Da Grind” by the major record label “Slip-N-Slide Records. Working in several music production studios throughout Central Florida & Denver, Colorado. Being heavily influenced by Hip Hop Culture during the ’90s, I started as a songwriter & EMCEE. Quickly turned that same passion for writing music & began producing my style beats, evolving down the path of music production. I enrolled in a private technical college for a Bachelor’s Degree in Recording Arts, where I began working for local studios & attending beat battles & music conferences making a name for myself. Building on that same path of growing a musical legacy, The “DJ” was added to an already given street name, “Shay Kapone,” to create the brand @DJShayKapone

Chess History: My mother introduced me to the game in elementary school, giving me an Excalibur chess set. I immediately fell in love with the game! From 6th - 8th grade I was active in the Roland Park Chess Club in Hillsborough County Florida. It was during this time my parents were going through a nasty divorce and I was growing up with an abusive father.  To escape the abuse I was always going to clubs and tournaments while there was a huge custody battle going on, and I was winning!  I took home 12 different trophies in 3 years and was the 2nd ranked in Florida amongst 7th graders. After middle school when the divorce was settled, the abuse didn't stop there but the chess certainly did, and I quit. 

The return to the game!

Although I stopped doing tournaments: I was casually picking up a game but not "Taking it serious" during this entire time away from the game that I loved. I held a grudge against chess for so long but the battle with that is over now! I'm making a return to FIDE 2025!

Mission - Promote quality sportsmanship throughout the game! Coming from someone who has experienced quite a lot of loss in my life, the one thing I still haven't lost is my life. I'd like to tell the world my testimony until that day comes to hopefully prevent up and coming players from using drugs no matter what they are going through...
